Newly Hatched Duckling With Its Mom

My Pekin duck, Dorothy, spent her July sitting on four eggs she had laid. This is the first hatchling not long after emerging from its shell.

Here we show 4 duck eggs being candled. Clearly show 3 fertile eggs and 1 infertile egg. Started with 15 eggs–at day 7 we now have 13.

Ducklings exploring the garden

3 weeks on and the ducklings are getting huge. Mom hen is still looking after them and brooding them at night in their box but they love doing their own thing and don’t take much notice of her.
